No: Almost all males begin this at puberty. It's how he learns about his mind and body in preparation for adult roles, and stays comfortable and able to do the things he wants and needs to do. I'm sorry that someone has tried to trouble you over this. It will not make you blind, hairy, smooth, stupid, short, infertile, 'emotionally insensitive', 'sexually addicted' or unspiritual.
