depends: This really depends on what you do for a living and how affected you are by the pinched nerve. If you have a manual job, you might want to do light duty for a couple of weeks.

Varies: It varies based upon the degree of your symptoms and the extent that they are aggravated by activity. Ideally you would stay as active as possible without aggravating your symptoms. Some people are able to work, while others are not.
