A member asked:

On the 1st day of your period what causes little discharge and actual flow after many hours?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Slow breakdown: There is a slow "breakdown" of the endometrium via vasoconstriction prior to shedding as the hormonal support to it is withdrawn at the end of the menstrual cycle. The initial discharge is usually mucous prior to the blood vessels and endometrial tissue passing.
