Tampon use.: A tampon doesn't always absorb tissue & fluid evenly. The brown is likely old blood that has been cleaned from the uterus.

Every time I have used a tampon, my period stops. A normally 6-7 day period will stop on day two, and there will be very little blood on the tampon.
