How can all these bacteria become resistant to common antibiotics at the same time? what can be done?

Past overuse: Overuse of common and 3rd level antibiotics for everything from a common "viral cold" to sore throats have "allowed bacteria to evolve and change their cell walls to resist many antibiotics. The centers for disease control in atlanta has asked physicians to curtail non-indicated antibiotic use for that reason as we are "running out" of new more advanced antibiotics for rx.

Acquired genes: Since the introduction of abx in usable quantities we have seen germs gradually change. They have dna like u do & can mutate over time.Some can reproduce in < 10 minutes & every generation can form a new resistant mutant, reg abx kill the old & the mutant lives on to create pbs.Every time someone takes abx it puts pressure on germs & a mutant may emerge. That's why we shouldn't take for viruses.

AB resistance is…: D/t many factors: overuse of broadspectrum abs instead of bacteria-specific ones; use of abs in viral illness setting; pt non-compliance, i.e. Not taking the full course of med because "i was feeling better"; bacteria trading resistance patterns among different bacterial groups. Use ab's only if appropriate; use one specific to the germ being treated; prevent infections with hand washing, etc.
