Roughly 2-3%: The most commonly quoted number is that for every 1, 000 babies born approximately 8 will have some form of congenital heart disease (chd). When a parent has chd the chance of offspring having heart disease will vary depending on which parent is affected (mom or dad) and what defect is present but a good general average is 2-3% chance (meaning there is a 97-98% chance of no heart disease).
