STD's and Gums: Yes - there are. Gonorrhea, syphilis and herpes can cause gums to swell and hurt when you eat or drink certain foods, particularly those that are acidic in nature. Please get checked by your physician first to be sure that you are healthy, and then get referred to an oral surgeon and/or oral pathologic for an accurate diagnosis!
