Yes: We use thin slice ct for many things but it is especially helpful when we look for pulmonary embolism. To see a pe you would need to have intravenous contrast injected. Thin slice ct without contrast is often used to look at the details of the lung tissue.

Yes: Thin is 3mm compared to 5 mm or a centimeter.
