Infection: Is a likely cause of this such as candida yeast infection, hormonal chanes can be another. Pls see your dr for pelvic exam to start for proper treatment.

Physiologic discharg: Most likely your thick white discharge is from high estrogen levels. Those high estrogen levels often precede ovulation, but at age 39, sometimes ovulation doesn't occur (women ovulate less as they get older), and the high estrogen and discharge can persist.
