Trusting the Doctor: I am very sorry to hear that your mother is this ill. All of the physician's here at health tap would wish you well during what appears to be a very stressful time. Your mother is 92 years old. I would bet that makes her very fragile. We are not there to explain all of the things happening to her, but it appears she may not be able to thrive with all of what is happening in her body.

Respiratory support: In general a ventilator is used to support the lungs when the patient is failing. There are multiple reasons (recent surgery, sepsis, infection, organ failure), so ask your ICU team to explain the details of your mother's case. Ventilator support may help her overall care. Be well.
