A member asked:

I get a really painfully stich in left side when i'm out walking what could be causing this?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Diaphragm spasm: Side stitches are likely caused spasm of the diaphragm. Being out of shape is one cause. Also, avoiding carbonated beverages and eating within 1-2 hours of running can be preventative. Also, deep "belly" breathing can be helpful as short, shallow breaths can cause side stitches. Purse your lips as you deeply breathe. Finally, try to exhale when your left foot contacts the ground.
