Not useful: Physical symptoms of fournier's gangrene are progressive and include the following: 1) crepitant ("spongy" to the touch) skin which may be painful or numb; 2) dead and discolored (gray-black) tissue; murky and malodorous fluid weeping from skin; 3) fever and lethargy; 4) increasing genital pain and redness; 5) swelling of tissue in the genital area.

U/S not usually: Helpful here. Ct is the test of choice, but is used more for preoperative planning as opposed to diagnosis.
