Need to find reason: Fluid in the abdominal cavity is called ascites. There are many reasons for ascites, some related to malignant reasons, most to benign but serious causes, such as heart, liver and kidney failure. While diuretics (water pills) can improve the amount of ascites, it is critical to find out the underlying reason and address that. See your physician for further testing.
