PDT effective for AK: Actinic keratoses (ak) are precancerous lesions. When you have many, your dermatologist might recommend field treatment with photodynamic therapy using ala and blue light. Ala is preferentially absorbed by ak's, and when activated with blue light, these cells are preferentially destroyed. Pain and crusting are side effects. Yes, you will need to stay out of the sun for at least 48 hours after.
