Potassium of 5.1: You isolated potassium (k) of 5.1 is within normal limits, as the the normal range of k is 3.7 to 5.2 meq/l. More important lab values that would help you interpret your k level better are creatinine (c) and carbon dioxide. If your c is normal for your age, 41, i would not be troubled by this level. If your c is elevated, see a nephrologist to help you interpret your k level in your case.

Not quickly.: 5.1 is not dangerous in the short term; it needs to be followed, and if it continues to increase, to find and treat the cause. Just playing yo-yo with electrolytes is useless.
