My son has pancreatic cancer and it has matastized to the liver. that tumor is small and the cancer is no where else. why not remove the liver tumor?

Worrisome info: This might seem a logical next step.Yet the presence of a lesion in the liver means the cancer has probably sent tiny seeds for more tumors to additional sites throughout the body. These may not show for weeks or months, but this may be their reason.

Thanks for asking!: Patients with stage 4 cancer(metastatic disease) are usually not considered as candidates for surgery (unless it's for alleviation of symptoms). Consult medical oncologist for systemic chemotherapy or targeted therapy.

Sorry to hear, Ma'am: I'm not sure what you mean by not being anywhere else. Did he already have surgery to remove the one in the pancreas or is it still there? It is hard to give an answer without more data but i tend to agree with those who do not think liver surgery is an option. Anti-cancer drugs are probably his only option. Can't imagine what you are going through, may god give strength to both of you.
