Elastic: You can buy extenders to hook over your belt loop to widen your waistband but it is probably a better idea to buy new pant or check into causes of weight gain.

Elastic waistband: Elastic waistbands are one answer. There are pants with buttons on the side of the waist that can let waist of the pants in and out. The real question is why are you swelling?
