Uncertain: Causes of navel discharge include abnormalities of the uracha (cyst, sinus or patent uracha), complications from past laparoscopic surgery, umbilical abscess ; recurrent folliculitis. More superficial fungal (such as yeast) and bacterial infections can occur.

Clean better: Honestly, the most common reason i find for this is simply needing to clean more completely. I know that may sound mean. However, sometimes infections can occur especially in those whose umbillicus or belly button had for instance a skin fold creating a pocket that is more easily infected and/or much harder to keep clean. This may require antibiotics and even surgery to correct.
