consistent activity: Like all herbs, black cohosh root contains a large variety of chemicals. The best-studied standardized form, remifemin, has an extract equivalent to 20 mg of root containing 1 mg of 26-deoxyactein, one of the active ingredients. One can take the root instead of the extract but the amount of 26-deoxyactein will be less certain. See http://ods.Od.Nih.Gov/factsheets/blackcohosh-healthprofessional/.
