PID: The 'period' is due to a cycle of estrogen secret'n, ovulation, Progesterone secret'n, ; w/drawl (unless there's implantation of a fertilized ovum) of the endometrial lining. If the ovary isn't able to allow a mature ovum to rupture, the cycle isn't normal. The pituitary spews out fsh w/out feedback. Only if ovaries are scarred from infect'ns so badly that they can't release ovum will periods stop.
