Therapy vs Surgery: If you don't believe therapy will work, it's unlikely you will give it the full commitment required to make it work. A test of therapy is usually preferable because you can always have surgery later. Surgery, however, is not something you can undo.

Probably: It sounds like your problem is an accessory bone by the navicular. If this is the case, then surgery may be warranted. However, this can easily be confused with a true tendon problem or a symptomatic flatfoot. Someone with experience and knowledge on both the diagnoses and treatment options for each should evaluate you. Please let me know if i can be of further help. Ankleandfootsurgery.Net.

Try the therapy: Your doctor wants to be conservative first-good! surgery is invasive, requires healing time and is not a guarantee. Ask your doctor why he wants to try therapy first. He should be able to tell you expected outcomes and give you a rough timetable for improvement. If you don't improve, you can always do the more invasive surgery.

Pt: As stated your doc is being conservative and that's a good thing . Pt cannot hurt you , and even if the expectation is low it may help. But - you have to do your best to make it work and that starts with a positive attitude. Good luck.
