Think this through: Hoping you take time to really think this through, before getting pregnant. Has your partner been working a 12 step recovery program? Have you been attending al-anon to learn about alcoholism and co-dependency? If the answer to both is no, you're dealing with a very unstable situation -- not one that's conducive to becoming a family ready to deal with a new baby. I wish you both the best.

I would recommend..: ...Not trying to conceive at all with this person until your partner has been through treatment for his/her alcoholism. Alcoholics may stop briefly, but without treatment they are likely to start again. Further, weekend binges tend, over time, to become daily binges. Your partner needs help. If he/she refuses help and you want children, be wise and find another partner.

Recommend caution: Stopping binge drinking cold turkey, if any signs of agitation, seizure, see physician. That being said, you can start trying immediately as his sperm count and quality will start to increase as soon as he stops consistently drinking. If you want to help increase chances during first try, wait about a week avoiding ejaculation three days prior.
