When an autopsy is done, is the insurance charged?

No: Autopsies conducted by the medical examiner or coroner are paid for by the county or state ordering them. Occasionally the hospital may pay for the autopsy directly. Private autopsies requested by families are paid for by the family directly. Insurance does not pay for autopsies.
