Are there any effective treatments for actinomycosis?

Yes. Antibiotic treatment (high dose penicillin) may be needed for months up to a year. Ceftriaxone or amoxicillin are sometimes used. If an intrauterine device was the trigger- it must be removed. Surgical intervention may be required for abscesses or fistulous tracts.
