Extends lifespan: Lung transplant in someone with CF can help extend their lifespan if everything goes well. However, lung transplant is associated with additional set of complications & requires very close monitoring & use of lifelong immunosuppressive treatment. The current 5-year survival after lung transplant is about 50%. The risks & benefits have to be weighed for each individual. Talk to a transplant center.

It depends: The transplant center will evaluate whether based on their transplantation survival statistics and your clinical disease severity, whether the benefits outweigh the risks. The allocated organs are received first by the patients who are the most severe, and most likely to benefit from an organ transplantation. Transplantation centers will have information on this for you. I hope that this helps.
