Haven't heard of : That. Black, tarry, malodorous stool can be due to acidified blood from higher in the gi. That would merit prompt medical evaluation.

No: Iron tablets and pepto bismol (bismuth subsalicylate) are two common drug store products that can cause stools to turn black. But, the more serious concern would be stomach or intestinal bleeding for which you need to seek immediate medical attention.
