Cholecystectomy ...: Is the name of the operation to remove the gallbladder. It can be done as an open operation with a large upper abdominal incision. More commonly these days, it is performed as a minimally-invasive laparoscopic procedure.

Gallbladder removal: Cholecystectomy is the technical term used for removal of one's gallbladder. We usually accomplish this through laparoscopy, which entails 3 (or 4) small incisions in the abdomen. Most patients recover within a few days of the procedure.
