Motrin: I have found Motrin to be more effective in helping with pain after bunion surgery. Motrin is classified as an NSAID (non steroidal anti inflammatory). I have found to prescribe Motrin post operativly is effective in helping with the swelling and pain after bunion surgery.

Either: Different meds work better for different people. It is not alwsays about potency.

Different drugs.: Motrin is a great anti-inflammatory, but not as great at strict pain control. Tylenol (acetaminophen) is a great pain reliever, but not so hot at reducing inflammation. Ask your surgeon which you should take, as some of the pain medications prescribed after surgery can already contain tylenol, (acetaminophen) and you don't want to overload your system!

Depends: On the dose you take. There are plenty of more effective meds than either of these.

Different effects: Both may be of benefit. They provide different pathways of pain relief.
