Chiggers bite: I doubt Claritin (loratadine) would help much. Chiggers cause intense local hive-like reactions that respond best to topically applied anti-pruritics. Look for ingredients such as pramoxine or menthol. Oral antihistamines are sometimes used for insect bite reactions but probably only are effective to the degree that they cause sedation. Claritin in non-sedating.

Not particularly.: Get chiggers off your skin asap by rubbing w a cloth or showering in warm water w soap. You can apply Hydrocortisone cream or take oral antihistamines for itching. There are products you can buy specifically to treat chiggers. Chigger bites usually resolve in 1 to 2 weeks w/o treatment. Get medical eval for infection.
