See below: It is hard to say just from that description. Involuntary muscle twitches during the transition from wake to sleep called hypnic jerks may be what is occurring. If it is frequent, it may be related to an underlying sleep disorder such as sleep apnea, espcially if snoring, episodes of breathing cessation in sleep, morning headaches, ; excessive daytime sleepiness are present.
