Usual normal: Hypnic jerks are common. It is normal for most to twitch when falling asleep. However, abnormal twitching could be related to restless legs syndrome, periodic limb movements or seizures. Talk to a sleep specialists.

See below: It is hard to say just from that description. Involuntary muscle twitches during the transition from wake to sleep called hypnic jerks may be what is occurring.
