Many reasons: Corticosteroids interfere with inflammation which is a very necessary "step" in the wound healing process. They also stimulate Collagenase which is an enzyme that breaks down collagen, an important component in healing. Corticosteroids also interfere with epithelialization and fibroblast proliferation - 2 cells that are responsible for healing.
