Heart Beat: That is your heart beat! the carotid artery runs right by your ear and you can hear it when your heart is pounding hard.

Audible pulse: Your carotid artery runs very close to your ear drum... If the beating coincides with your pulse, that is what it is. If it doesn't, you should see an ears nose throat doctor to be evaluated.
