Infection: It could be a urinary tract infection (uti), most commonly caused by a bacteria in the bladder. Infection in the urethra can also cause discomfort, and is called urethritis. Sexually transmitted infections and some autoimmune conditions can cause urethritis but they don't typically cause uti's. Get a urine test first and if it's a UTI a simple course of antibiotics will take care of it.
