That depends...: On the cause. Many disease states can cause 'hyperinflation'. Asthma, may cause hyperinflation that resolves after the acute state. However, emphysema causes hyperinflation due to destroyed lung tissue. Unfortunately, that does not 'heal'. If you smoke, quit!
