A member asked:

Why do the elderly need potassium free electrolyte?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not always: It is not true that all older adults must avoid potassium. However if the person has kidney problem, or is on medication (usually for high blood pressure) that causes the body to have problems getting rid of potassium, then it needs to be avoided.
