Deep scaling ?: If this is what you are referring to, then yes, it is advisable. Your dentist cannot possibly work on teeth surrounded by calculus and gums that bleed spontaneously due to inflammation. A clean, healthy environment will allow for a better restoration over the long run.

Yes, For You: Not everyone who needs their teeth repaired or restored needs their gums fixed also. However, if you have unhealthy gums, and they require a "deep cleansing, " then this should be done before you have any teeth fixed. The only exception would be a tooth which is hurting you...Your dentist should take care of your pain first in this case. With healthy gums your teeth repairs will be better overall.
