How do i know exactly what is borderline personality disorder?

Many different types: Borderline personality disorder (bpd) originally described people who hover on the border between psychosis (loss of reality testing) and neurosis (conflicts around sex, guilt, anger, etc.). Currently, bpd is considered a heterogeneous disorder--possibly genetically related to bipolar disorder--characterized by impulsivity, volatile moods, stormy relationships, suicidal gestures... (see dsm iv).

Personality disorder: Borderline personality is a lifelong, pervasive personality disorder with deficits such as an unstable sense of self, unstable affect, hard to manage emotions with large swings, with high reactivity and difficulty maintaining an even internal state. Although exact causes are unknown, treatment is best from a team using dialectical behavioral therapy (dbt).

Borderline: Intense fear of abandonment, being manipulative, impulsivity, a tendency to think of people and things in all good or all bad terms, self mutilating behaviors, drug and alcohol abuse, sexual impulsivity, a profoundly disturb sense of self, and extreme emotional volatility.
