Various reasons: Nipple retraction should be evaluated in person by a breast specialist. This can be normal in some people. It can be caused by a mass or infection. It is important to determine if a mass is the cause and make sure it is not cancer. This can be done by getting imaging (mammogram or ultrasound) and possibly a biopsy.
