A member asked:

I have plantar fasciitis will i need crutches?

Usually not: Unless the plantar fasciitis is so severe that you can't bear weight, or if you fail conservative treatment and need surgery, crutches are generally not necessary as part of the treatment program. Even if it is severe, often times a walking boot can be used which will allow you to bear weight. Obviously, it is best to be evaluated and treated by an ortho foot and ankle surgeon or podiatrist.

Usually not: Most of the time the symptoms can be calmed with ice, stretching and nsaids. Sometimes therapy and shoes inserts can be helpful. Most patients with this problem dont use crutches.

Not likely.: Most cases of plantar fasciitis can be controlled with conservative combination treatment. The more you can do together, the better: #1: supportive shoes. #2: firm inserts or orthotics. #3: oral antiinflammatories (check with your doctor). #4: stretching your foot and calf. #5: icing (10 min at a time). You may also need physical therapy or cortisone injections, or eswt if available in your area.

No: Crutches won't be needed if you get treatment with injections, ice, rest custom orthotics eswt etc. There are many treatment options that can help.
