See your OBGYN: This is too complex of an issue to answer. The nuchal fold measurement is performed to screen for certain inherited disorders, such as down syndrome. The measurements need to be compared to other factors such as maternal age and gestational age. Please see your obgyn for a clear answer.

Ultrasound: A nuchal translucency test (sometimes called "nuchal fold scan") with ultrasound images will be used to measure the translucent area at the back of your baby's neck. Babies with abnormalities may accumulate more fluid at the back of their neck during the first trimester, causing this clear space to be larger than average, but this does not necessarily mean that your baby is abnormal. Follow up.
