Several variables: It can vary based on the cause of liver failure, source of the liver, and the condition of the recipient at the time of transplant. Overall about 70% of grafts are functioning at 5 years and 50% are functioning at 10 years after the trasplant.

20 years: About 70% of deceased donor liver transplant recipients are alive with functioning grafts at 5 years, and about 50% are alive at 10 years. Cases of 20 year survival with the same have occurred.

A 37-year-old member asked:
Is it possible for someone to register somewhere to become a live liver translpant donor?
1 doctor answer • 4 doctors weighed in

Dr. Amy Friedman answered
Transplant Surgery 39 years experience
UNOS list of centers: Becoming a live liver donor requires comprehensive evaluation, and thorough education of many issues, for you. This will only be accomplished at a liver transplant program approved by unos to perform these transplants, although some of the simplest testing can be arranged elsewhere. "registration" is not a simply process. I advise searching unos website for programs if you are really interested.
