A member asked:

How is oral contraceptive containing estrogen containdicated to antibiotic?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Lower effectiveness: Certain medicines as well as certain herbs increase the speed that oral contraceptives are cleared from the body, decreasing effectiveness. Things most likely to do this are: Antibiotics such as Rifampin and Grseofulvin; anticonvulsants such as dilantin, Phenobarbital and tegretol; even St John's Wart. Check with your doctor to see if you need to use a back-up method.
