Veins: Hemorrhoids are normal veins in the anal canal. They can become inflamed or enlarged with constipation or prolonged and repeated straining to have a bowel movement. Treated at home by avoiding constipation, drink plenty of liquids, eat more fiber (fruits, vegetables, metamucil), avoid junk foods, warm bath to sit in. See a surgeon if symptoms persist.

Yes: It sounds like a thrombosed hemorrhoid (a blood clot). Early treatment involves surgical removal of the clot in the doctor's office using lidocaine. If it has beenpresent more than 5 days, leave it alone and it will resolve on its own.
