My son's knee sounds like a old rusty door or almost like bones rubbing together when he stands up he says it does not hurt what could be wrong?

Crepitus: The sound that the knee makes is usually called crepitus. This has to do with the movement of cartilage across cartilage. A nice smooth surface usually does not make noise. If any irregularities in cartilage may increase friction and cause noise. If not painful usually just provide reassurance after making sure that the movement of the knee is correct.

Chondromalacia: Probably have a condition called patella chondromalacia, that condition is due to damage to the articular surface of the patella and if does not hurt, ignore it.
