I would: Get an xray and a hand exam. In absence of a prior injury, probably nothing. But cannot rule out arthritis, gout, or other causes.

Check it: You will need to see a doc for this as it's been hurting your a while. Without hearing more story from you and doing an exam, it's essentially impossible to say something.

Trigger Finger: You may have an overuse syndrome from typing or texting, which we are seeing much more often as we all do more of it. The most common is trigger finger. Trigger finger and a number of these conditions respond to simple injections of steroid and anesthetic into the finger. See a hand specialist (hand surgeon).
