Exercise and massage: Those feelings can be from tired, weak muscles, which you suggest. But if they are more diffuse or get worse, get checked out. For weak back muscles, learning to gently start exercises for motion and strengthening with weights can help. Yoga, massage and hot soaks are also helpful for getting muscles in shape and feeling better.

Upper back: My first question would be why are the muscles weak. Burning pain and soreness occurs in muscles that are in a disadvantages position(poor posture) and are not able to accept the loads placed on them. If no underlying medical problem or medications that can cause a myopathy then i would maintain optimal posture and strengthen the muscle progressively.
