I am a diabetic, osteoporous, arthritic and have had a hip replacement. i have been told to get an ra test done. myhands hurt and go numb and the numbness may last from20 seconds to an hour. what might be the cause of it?

2 major causes: The 2 most likely causes are cervical spondylitis (pinched nerve in neck from arthritic spurs or ruptured disk) or diabetic peripheral neuropathy. An MRI and/or nerve conduction study will distinguish the 2 conditions. Treatments are different.

Could be a form: Of diabetic neuropathy or carpal tunnel. It is ard to tell without an exam. You need an exam in order to figure out the proper diagnosis and treatment.

See rheumatologist: Ra test will not give you diagnosis. This needs a full evaluation. May be pressure on nerves from the arthritis, diabetes.
