Not very likely: Theoretically, any antibiotic use can lead to c diff. Trimethoprim is not a high offender on the list however. If you are truly concerned, you can take probiotics like florastor or lactinex while you are taking the antibiotic to lessen your chance of the infection.

Antibiotics : Hello!, it is true that clostridium difficile, infections are generally associated with recent antibiotic use. It doesn't mean you are guaranteed to get c diff. Our normal gut flora, or good bacteria, keep opportunistic bacteria at bay. Antibiotics can decrease our good bacteria, letting c. Diff takeover. Probiotics or yogurt can help replenish the good bacteria during and after antibiotics.

Rarely.: It is unpredictable but may occur, especially in patients with other co-morbidities and prolonged antibiotic use.
