Yes, that would be : An appropriate reason to see a physician. Sometimes small stones pass on their own- but many do not.

Stone guidelines: Realizing you are diagnosing yourself, if it is a kidney stone, you should seek medical attention if: pain persists and doesn't move, if you are vomiting, or if you have fever. Whether if passes on it's own depends on the size of the stone, and other factors like hydration.
