Bactermia: It is a description of a process where the bacteria causing an infection is also in the bloodstream. It is more serious than other infections and requires prompt treatment. Persistent blood infection raises the possibility of valvular endocarditis. The presence of a blood infection is often referred to as sepsis and if associated with hemodynamic dysfunction it is referred to as septic shock.
